Piercing Kiddos
Minors seeking piercing must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian. We are a family owned business and love to give kiddo's a good tattoo shop experience! We even have temporary tattoos and prizes for kids. Certificates of Achievement are also given to kids who get pierced.
AGE LIMIT: We do not pierce babies or young toddlers. Kiddos who come in and speak with a piercer can get their ears pierced ONLY if they are able to understand the process, healing and responsibility. In our experience, only some kiddos can comprehend and withstand the possible pain of two ear piercings, and all the cleaning afterwards (along with parent's help of course). This is a case-by-case situation and depends on many factors.
At Valkyrie Tattoo & Piercing we DO NOT pierce babies or toddlers because they cannot consent to it. Body modifications, no matter how small, are a big deal to us. We also find that piercings are a special moment for kids to remember as they get older. Choosing jewelry, cleaning their piercings, and overcoming a fear, can all be fun and educational experiences. It can also be a good bonding moment for the kiddo and their family! Piercing should always be fun, exciting, and taken seriously by all parties.
In short.....
Minors are welcome in the shop IF and only IF they are respectful, behaved, and capable of understanding the situation entirely.
Consent To Pierce
Our #1 rule at Valkyrie Tattoo: We only preform piercings on people who can consent to them.
They must also comprehend the piercing process, healing time, and responsibility of a body piercing. This is different for all kiddos and is up to the parent's and piercer's discretion, whether they are mature enough for the piercing. Under NO circumstance can someone under 18 EVER get a nipple or genital piercing. They can however get ears, and age appropriate facial piercings.
We will not hold down anyone., OR pierce them if they change their mind. In that situation, we will end the appointment, and the full price will still be owed. So it's in parent's best interest to ensure their child is mature enough to get pierced, long before they enter the piercing room.
The same rules apply to adults getting pierced, too!
The Process
We always use sterile, single use piercing needles to create a pathway for jewelry. This is universally recognized as much safer and more sanitary than the piercing gun method used at malls and by unprofessional piercers.
All of our piercing jewelry is pre-sterilized in an autoclave that reaches 270 degrees of heat and steam and 27.1 lbs of pressure per square inch. This effectively eliminates any possible contaminates. On top of that, your piercer will clean your skin with alcohol, unscented soap, and mark you with gentian violet. Our standard jewelry includes surgical stainless pushpin or internally threaded beads. You can always upgrade to gems, titanium options, or other sizes of guage, length, diameter, etc. Our piercing tools and clamps also all go through complete sterilization every single time. Effective cleanliness is important to you, and it's important to us!
According to safepiercing.org, on the use of Piercing Guns:
"Reusable ear piercing guns can put clients in direct contact with the blood and body fluids of previous clients," and "Piercing guns can cause significant
tissue damage."
So we always use single use, professional grade, sterile piercing needles, and then dispose of them in proper sharps containers.
